Chilligrow - expert designed for bumper harvests
Special Price: £28.90 or buy 2 for £50.00
Designed by chilli experts to produce bumper harvests – just water once a week!
The Chilligrow keeps plants perfectly watered for up to a week at a time so that they produce bumper harvests. Simply add young plants to the 3 pots in the Chilligrow and fill the 7 litre SmartReservoir. The FeederMats in the pots will pull water up to the plant roots when they need it. Growing impressive harvests of chillies has never been easier.
The Chilligrow produces superb harvests because...
- The SmartReservoir keeps the chilli plants perfectly watered at all times.
- The shape and size of the pots encourages the plant to start producing chillies early in the season so that they have plenty of time to ripen.
- The plant food included contains all the nutrients that chillies need.
"The Chilligrow has produced the best most consistent results, all the plants look excellent." Dave, The ChileFoundry

The Chilligrow was specifically designed to produce bumper chilli harvests in smaller spaces (if you have more space try the Quadgrow, which works in the same way as the Chilligrow). The Chilligrow produces healthier plants and bigger harvests by providing your plants with constant access to water without ever over-watering. Plants use water for cell growth and for overall health, but they also need water for the following specific functions, which are compromised when we under-water.
Chillies, like all plants, need to constantly replace the water they use, but overwatering prevents roots from accessing oxygen and is the number one cause of plant demise. Incorrect watering causes most gardening problems, including blossom end rot and fruit splitting.
What happens when we overwater?
If the soil is over-watered the pores in the soil become blocked and the roots can't access the air. This lack of oxygen means the roots suffocate and die, which then means that the roots can’t take up water or nutrients. A plant weakened by overwatering becomes susceptible to disease, particularly fungal attacks.
What happens when we underwater?
Transporting minerals and nutrients
Plants use water to move minerals and nutrients from the roots around the plant, and to move glucose (from photosynthesis) from leaves to other cells in the plant.
Photosynthesis
About 5% of the water absorbed by plants is used to make glucose during the photosynthesis process.
Transpiration
As well as water, plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis (they combine water, carbon dioxide and light to produce glucose). They access this carbon dioxide through microscopic openings on their leaves and stems. These openings are called ‘stomata’. The stomata open and close regularly to absorb carbon dioxide and as they do this they also release water, this release of water is called transpiration. If the plant is short of water it won't open its stomato as frequently and therefore it won't photosynthesise as much. Sunny, hot weather increases the rate of transpiration, which is why plants need more water in these conditions.
It's not science, but here's a bit about our love of chillies
Chillies are quite simply our favourite crop. We’ve been growing them in our visitor greenhouse for 10years, but John, our chairman, has been growing them for himself for 40years. We are proud that our Grow planters and Vitopod propagators are used by such fabulous chilli growers as Chillies Galore, Upton Cheyney Chilli, Simpsons Seeds, Wiltshire Chilli Farm, Chilli Seeds, South Devon Chilli Farm and the Chilli Queen. Chillies are the star attraction at our greenhouse in Lancashire, where we grow between 9 and 15 varieties each year including our five year old Trinidad Scorpion. This year we are growing Rocotto Red, Big Jim, Joes Long, Lemon Drop, Trinidad Scorpion, Friars Hat, Ring of Fire, Prairie Fire, Padron and Ebony amongst others.
All of our planters are designed with chillies in mind, from the Chilligrow designed in close consultation with several of the chilli growers name checked above; right up to the Hydrogrow planters that produce plants that grow up to 7ft tall, each producing several hundred chillies. Chillies were the inspiration behind the Vitopod propagator’s temperature range; it can be set as high as 30°C to get really hot chillies off to a head start, and it can be set as low as 5°C to overwinter in an unheated polytunnel without subjecting prized chillies to frost. We can’t take all the credit though, ideas for our products are inspired by the great people we meet at the chilli events we attend each year including the West Dean Chilli Fiesta.
Because we are such huge chilli fans some of us are active on the chilli forums, we’re there in our spare time for fun, but we are honest about working for Greenhouse Sensation, so if you spot us feel free to ask any Greenhouse Sensation related questions.
