Special Price: Buy a Quadgrow Veg Planter & Quadgrow Slim Planter for £69.90

Perfect For: Potatoes, Carrots, Chard, Leeks, Baby Turnips, Beetroot & Onions.

You’ll have no more soggy spuds or forked carrots with our Root Veg Planter which, just like the best-selling Quadgrow, prevents drying out and water-logging.

Simply place the FeederMats in the pots, add compost and seed potatoes or young veg plants, and fill the SmartReservoir.

The FeederMats will pull water up from the SmartReservoir when the plants need it, maintaining perfect moisture levels so the tubers or young plants are never too thirsty and are never stood in water. There’s no risk of soggy rotten roots and you raise bigger harvests of better tasting veg.

We especially love it for potatoes because it prevents the problem of gluts and variety boredom as you can plant each pot with a different variety and harvest one pot at a time – instead of having to harvest 60 potatoes at once!

These Quadgrow Veg planters are ideal for growing on balconies, patios and decked areas without making a mess.

Pots hold 18 litres of compost
The planter is made from very durable recycled plastic - use year after year.

Ask us a question

The Quadgrow Veg planter produces healthier plants and bigger harvests than traditional pots, planters and grow bags by providing your plants with constant access to water without ever over-watering.

What happens when we overwater?
Plants need to constantly replace the water they use, but overwatering prevents roots from accessing oxygen and is the number one cause of plant demise.

If soil is over-watered the pores in the soil become blocked and the roots can't access the air in the soil. The lack of oxygen means that the roots can't take up water or nutrients. A plant weakened by overwatering becomes susceptible to disease, particularly fungal attacks. If the over-watering is repeated the roots suffocate and die.

What happens when we underwater?
Plants use water for cell growth and for overall health, but they also need water for the following specific functions, which are compromised when we under-water.

Transporting minerals and nutrients
Plants use water to move minerals and nutrients from the roots around the plant, and to move glucose (from photosynthesis) from leaves to other cells in the plant.

Photosynthesis
About 5% of the water absorbed by plants is used to make glucose during the photosynthesis process.

Transpiration
As well as water, plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis (they combine water, carbon dioxide and light to produce glucose). They access this carbon dioxide through microscopic openings on their leaves and stems. These openings are called ‘stomata’. The stomata open and close regularly to absorb carbon dioxide and as they do this they also release water, this release of water is called transpiration. If the plant is short of water it won't open its stomato as frequently and therefore it won't photosynthesise as much. Sunny, hot weather increases the rate of transpiration, so plants need more water in these conditions.

It's no wonder then that incorrect watering causes most gardening problems, including blossom end rot and fruit splitting.

Perfect for?
The Quadgrow Veg Planter is perfect for growing 4 varieties of veg in 1 planter. The Quadgrow Veg Planter is the perfect replacement for traditional pots, planters and grow bags.

Growing from Seed
• Use a dibber to create rows and sow your seeds.
• Gently cover your seeds with a fine layer of compost using a compost sieve.
• Firm and level your compost using a tamper to ensure even germination and removal of air pockets.
• Water the compost well using a watering can with a rose until the compost is moist but not saturated.

Transplanting Plants
• Make a hole in the compost large enough for your plant.
• Add your plant. Firm the compost down gently around the plant to settle the compost.
• Water the compost well using a watering can with a rose until the compost is moist but not saturated.

Growing Potatoes
• Add compost to the pots to a depth of 5cm–10cm (2–4 inches), whilst taking care to keep the FeederMat upright.
• Place your tubers/seed potatoes in the corners of the pots rose end up (the end where the buds or sprouts can be seen). Use 2 to 4 seed potatoes per pot.
• Cover the tubers/seed potatoes and any shoots with approx. 2.5cm (1 inch) of compost. • Water the compost well using a watering can with a rose until the compost is moist but not saturated.
• When the shoots are 15cm (6 inch) above the compost, cover with another 10cm (4 inch) of compost to prevent light from reaching the tubers and them turning green. Leave enough uncovered to allow some leaves to absorb sunlight. Repeat this process until the foliage is over the top of the pots.
• Once flowers have died, remove the top foliage.
• On late cropping varieties, as the weather turns colder (October), protect plants at night on

Huge Spud Harvest Review by Charlie
Quality
I bought one of these at the Edible Garden Show last year and was a bit sceptical because I'm an experienced gardener and always get pretty good potato harvests.

I was pleasantly surprised that I harvested lots more from the Quadgrow Veg Planter than I did from the ground and my usual potato containers. I've now also bought a normal Quadgrow. (Posted on 08/10/2014)
