Greenhouse Update: Tomatoes & Chillies

Thursday, 30 January 2014 14:09:33 Europe/London

Our tomato, chilli & pepper plants are looking strong & healthy in our Vitopod heated propagator, which is set to 20°C. Our seeds were sown just before Christmas, and transplanted into pots 2-3 weeks later.

Once our tomato, chilli & pepper plants produce a second set of leaves, and are around 20-25cm tall they will be transplanted into our Duogrow, Quadgrow & Chilligrow self-watering planters. We are looking forward to planting these at the start of March when the weather is nice and warm (hopefully)!

We propagated some of our tomato seeds using jiffy compost pellets. When the roots grow through the sides of the pellets, pop them into larger rockwool cubes and they will be planted into our Vivigrow planter.

Varieties we are growing:

Tomatoes – Constoluto Fiorentino, Noire de Crimee, San Marzano, Tigerella, Sungold.
Chilies – Habanero Fruit burst, Habanero Peach.
Pepper – F1 Jumbo, Corno di Toro Rosso.
