Feeling the Heat? 3 Ways to Combat the Hosepipe Ban

Tuesday, 3 July 2018 14:10:09 Europe/London

It’s not often that the UK gets overwhelmed with scorching temperatures. In fact, it’s a wonder that we have a season called summer at all some years. However, Mother Nature likes to keep us on our toes, and with temperatures soaring, it probably comes as no surprise that water companies have enforced a hosepipe ban in Northern Ireland, and the threat of one occurring in the rest of the UK is still highly possible

While many homeowners may not think twice about watering their gardens, we know that there are a lot of green-fingered gardeners out there itching at the thought of the dry, hot climate ruining all their hard work, and a hosepipe ban will only add to their stresses.

But, what if we told you that there are ways to keep your garden watered and happy, even if the water utility companies put a hosepipe ban in place?

Greenhouse Watering kits

We’re always conscious about wasting water, and our Click and Drip kits – for outdoor taps,  grow bags and for water butts, are all designed to reduce water wastage. Not only does wasting water cost us money, but it can also damage your garden if it becomes overwatered over time.

But, why are these products the perfect solution during a watering ban, we hear you ask? Surely you’re still hooking them up to a tap and using them to water your plants…

How Do They Work?

The answer is simple – the hosepipe ban doesn’t affect our watering systems due to a little component which reduces the pressure of the water passing through the pipes, resulting in a slow drip action rather than a drenching one. Doing this saves around 70% of water, but still gives your garden the nourishment it needs.

Using this drip system – whether it’s attached to your garden tap, through your grow bags or coming out of your water butt – you’re even able to feed your plants and not worry about water wastage while you are away! Using a garden water timer gives you control over when your plants are watered, avoiding over-watering of your garden.

For singular plants, there’s a smaller solution – our Terracotta Watering set simply pushes into the soil and slowly waters your plants

Only use as much water in your garden as you need – nothing more, nothing less!

Use the Sun!

While the sun is out to play, why not enlist its help to water your plants? Our Solar Powered Irrigation kit is not only eco-friendly - it waters your plants effectively as the sun gets hotter, meaning your plants get the moisture they need automatically as the heat starts to rise.

Available in 12 or 24 drippers, your plants are watered every three hours with an amount of water which is determined by how much sun is present!

There’s also the Solar Quadgrow, which turbocharges your harvests by up to 3 or 4 times the size you would usually expect. Much like the irrigation kit mentioned above, this system uses solar power to determine how much water is needed, and any water which isn’t absorbed by the plants is recycled into the reservoir to be used again!

So, what are you waiting for? Be the envy of all your neighbours during heatwaves with a luscious, healthy garden!
