It’s been two weeks since our last greenhouse update and there has been some incredible progress! There’s no stopping our tomatoes, chillies and potatoes which have all experienced incredible growth, plus there’s even more baby babacos and the Kiwifruit continues to climb.
The tomatoes have been absolutely unstoppable, growing very tall and producing plenty of tasty looking tomatoes! Our tallest plant, the Country Taste in our Vivigrow Planter, is now 246cm tall and we’ve spotted 14 lovely looking toms so far. The Sungold has produced the most tomatoes so far; we’ve been able to spot 70!
Two weeks ago, we spotted the first shoots from our Lady Christl potatoes poking their way through the compost in our Quadgrow Root Veg Planter. Since then, they have grown spectacularly and we have even had to earth them up! Earthing up is the process of adding further compost on top of your spuds foliage once it hits 10cm in height, meaning your plant has more room to grow into, producing more potatoes and higher yields.
The Friars Hat, Joes Long, Ring of Fire and Padron chillies in our Quadgrow Planter are coming along nicely. Looking at them now, it’s hard to think they were only sown on January 16th – they’ve grown up so much! The tallest of the plants is our Padron, which is now 118cm tall. There are still only 2 chillies on our Ring of Fire plant, but they are now looking much fuller and there’s plenty more flowers popping up!
The Kiwifruit in our Tropical Planter has continued to grow steadily, climbing up the central pole and producing rich, healthy looking foliage. It is now just over 1 metre tall and we’re excited to see just how big it will get!
Our three Bolivian Rainbow chillies have enjoyed even, consistent growth in our Chilligrow Planter. They currently measure 52, 54 & 56cm tall and appear to be engaging in a little sibling rivalry – we can’t wait to see which of them grows the tallest.
These plants have also started to flower, so we hope to begin spotting some chillies in the next few weeks. Bolivian Rainbows grow absolutely beautifully, producing an array of vibrant colourful chillies with a nice fiery kick.
We absolutely adore the baby babacos that have started popping up in our Tropical Planter. These happy little babacos have grown up a lot since our last update and are now between 10-15cm long. This tasty fruit is fantastic to grow, producing around 30 giant babacos per year.
