Simply add water, plug it in and watch your salad grow!
Add water every 7-14 days and let the Vivigrow Salad Planter look after your plants by constantly pumping oxygen-rich water and nutrients around the roots.
The roots always have access to water and nutrients and much more access to oxygen than in a grow bag or standard planter, so the plants grow much more quickly.
You don't add soil to this planter (because soil restricts access to oxygen), instead you raise the seed in a compost pellet (included) and drop the pellet directly into the planter when the roots are visible.
The Planter Kit Includes:
- Vivigrow Planter complete with mini pump (it needs to be plugged in but uses a tiny amount of electricity)
- 4 packs of salad seeds (Italian leaf mix, oriental leaf mix, swiss chard, spinach)
- 25 Jiffy compost pellets
- 2.5L Nutrigrow plant food
What Else Can I Grow?
As well as salad leaves...
- Anything you would grow in a growbag - tomatoes, peppers, aubergines
- Melons, strawberries
- Oriental leaves e.g. purple choi, pak choi, bok choi, mizuna
- Loose leaf lettuce e.g. rocket, spinach, mustard leaf
- Cos and Raddichhio
- Swiss Chard and kale harvested as cut and come again baby leaf
Top Tip For Salad Leaves
Cut the leaves to harvest them and they will grow back. If the plants become less productive after a few months, sow new seeds and replant the Vivigrow.
Optional Reservoir Heater Ask us a question
If you want to grow in winter add a 50w Reservoir Heater to maintain an even reservoir temperature.
Dimensions: Vivigrow Salad Planter Kit: L70cm x W39cm x H25cm - reservoir holds 20 litres
The Vivigrow pump is only 6 watts so costs a few pence per day to run (electricity is charged by the kilowatt and is currently around 20p per kilowatt per hour)
You’ll need a power supply in your greenhouse or polytunnel so that you can plug the Vivigrow in.
The planter improves plant health and size of harvest in the following ways...
1: Plant nutrients are dissolved in water rather than requiring the plant to extract them from soil.
2: Constant access to water and nutrients is provided so the plants are never lacking anything they need - whatever they don’t use drains back into the reservoir and is pumped around the roots again until you refresh the reservoir after 2 weeks.
3:The roots are left bare so they have excellent access to oxygen
